Today through Thursday, January 15th, the City of Oceanside’s Coastal Dunes Restoration Pilot Project is being installed. The City’s Coastal Dune Restoration webpage explains the project and the City’s Dune Restoration project plans show pilot locations & detail. Save Oceanside Sand (SOS) fully supports the project as a tool to manage a restored and healthy back beach location and we are excited to see the implementation begin. A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Coastal Program grant funds the installation and monitoring of the pilot. This is another tool being implemented in Oceanside’s Coastal Zone Management toolbox that will assist the City in the sustainable restoration and effective management of its beaches on the path to the implementation of the RE:BEACH Pilot project and beyond.
Save Oceanside Sand (SOS) is the local grassroots, community advocacy nonprofit organization that prompted the City of Oceanside to begin sustainably restoring its beaches. Recently, SOS was honored with a “Heroes of Oceanside & Camp Pendleton” award from the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce. SOS is the only community nonprofit organization advocating for sustainable beach restoration in San Diego County.
