SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Women’s golf will host the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship while men’s and women’s track & field, baseball and softball also continue competition this week for Cal State San Marcos Athletics.
Women’s golf will host the CCAA Championship at Morgan Run Club & Resort on Monday through Wednesday in Ranco Santa Fe.
Men’s and women’s track and will split up to compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Mt. SAC Relays and the Long Beach State Beach Invitational beginning on Wednesday.
Baseball will head up to Cal State San Bernardino for games on Thursday at 6 p.m. and on Friday at 3 p.m. before coming home to San Marcos for a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
Softball will play its final homer series of the season against UC San Diego. The Cougars and Tritons will play a doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m. before wrapping up the series on Saturday at noon. The Cougars will honor their four seniors following the series.

COUGAR UPDATE •The Cougars moved up to No. 3 in the Golfstat.com rankings after winning a share of the West Texas A&M Desert Invitational team title with Grand Valley State.
•As a team, the Cougars shot a 21-over 597, seven strokes ahead of No. 6 and host West Texas A&M.
•Claire Hogle became CSUSM’s fifth golfer to earn CCAA Golfer of the Week this season after placing second at the Desert Invite with a 1-over 145.
•Joining Hogle in the top 10 were Jaime Jacob (T5, 148) and Breann Horn (T10, 151).
•CSUSM has six golfers ranked in the top 100 according to Golfstat.com with Jacob ranked sixth, followed by No. 15 Hogle, No. 48 Sarah Garcia, No. 55 Horn, No. 68 Savannah Magallon and No. 86 Bergen Benedict.
CCAA CHAMPIONSHIP •The Cougars are the defending CCAA Champions, finishing with a 19-stroke cushion of a three-round total 39-over 903.
•In CSUSM’s first year of postseason eligibility, the Cougars brought home the school’s first-ever CCAA team title.
•Jacob also made school history, becoming CSUSM’s first CCAA individual champion after carding a 4-over 220.
•Four Cougars finished in the top 10 with Jacob leading the field of 30. Joining her was Hogle taking runner-up honors, Garcia tying for third and Magallon tying for seventh.
THE HUTTON FILE •Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men’s program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women’s head coach in 2014.
•Under Hutton’s leadership, the women’s team won CSUSM’s first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018.
•Both teams qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships last season.

PREVIOUS WEEK •Ndoto Strong took fourth in the shot put open with an NCAA Division II Provisional mark of 16.26 meters.
•Nic Samuels posted the ninth-best long jump mark in program history at 6.56 meters before posting the fourth-best triple jump mark at 14.17 meters.
•Jonathan Burton’s time of 53.56 in the 400-meter hurdles was the sixth-best time in program history as he finished 10th.
•Micaela Ecija posted the seventh-best discus throw mark in program history at 36.93 meters.

THE OLSON FILE •Head coach Torrey Olson begins his first season at the helm of the men’s and women’s track and field programs after taking over in the summer of 2018.
•Olson came to CSUSM after spending three seasons as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at the Academy of Art University where his teams earned 50-plus All-American honors.
•Olson served as the head cross country coach the previous three years at Academy of Art.
•In addition to the Academy of Art, Olson has also worked with the University of San Francisco and Pomona-Pitzer College.
•A graduate of Pomona College in 2009, Olson also holds an MFA from St. Mary’s College (2012).

THE GUILIANO FILE •Head coach Matt Guiliano enters his third season at the helm of the Cougars baseball program.
•Prior to making his way to San Marcos, Guiliano was the head coach for nine seasons (2008-16) at his alma mater Sioux Falls.
•Guiliano is a 2006 graduate of the University of Sioux Falls and a 2001 graduate of Valley Center High School.
•Guiliano is 56-89 (.386) as CSUSM’s head coach and is 231-322-1 (.418) for his entire head coaching career.

•Ewing captured her first win as a collegiate head coach on Feb. 17th as the Cougars won 5-4 in a walk-off over Concordia Portland at CSUSM Softball Field.
•She previously served as the assistant coach at New Mexico State where she helped the Aggies to three WAC Regular Season Conference Championships and two WAC Conference Tournament Championships.
