SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Men’s golf, men’s and women’s track & field, softball and baseball will all be in action on the road this week for Cal State San Marcos Athletics.
Men’s golf will get the week started at Cal State East Bay’s Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout on Monday and Tuesday at Corica Park Golf Club in Alameda.
Men’s and women’s track & field will compete at San Diego State’s three-day Aztec Invitational starting on Thursday.
Softball will play a pair of doubleheaders at Cal State Monterey Bay. Friday’s doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. while Saturday’s doubleheader will start at 11 a.m.
Baseball will also be at Cal State Monterey Bay for a four-game series beginning on Friday at 2 p.m. The Cougars and Otters will play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon before wrapping up the series with a single game on Sunday at 11 a.m.

LAST OUTING •The Cougars tied for fifth out of 16 teams with a 23-over 887 at the UCSD SoCal Intercollegiate on March 5.
•Ryan Bisharat was CSUSM’s top golfer, tying for 17th place with a 6-over 222.
CSUEB’S TIM TIERNEY PIONEER SHOOTOUT •The Cougars tied for sixth in last year’s Pioneer Shootout after carding their lowest round of the tournament at 291 to finish with a 23-over 887.
•Chris Tuulik was CSUSM’s top golfer, tying for 12th with a 2-over 218.
THE HUTTON FILE •Head coach Greg Hutton has been at the helm of the men’s program since the 2010-11 season and was named the women’s head coach in 2014.
•Under Hutton’s leadership, the women’s team won CSUSM’s first CCAA Championship in school history in 2018.
•Both teams qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships last season.

PREVIOUS WEEK •The men’s team finished fourth out of 12 teams while the women’s team took seventh out of 14 teams at Point Loma’s Ross and Sharon Irwin Collegiate Scoring Meet this past Saturday.
•Ndoto Strong won the men’s shot put event while breaking his own school record with an NCAA Division II Provisional mark of 16.85 meters.
•Justice Chima won the high-jump event with the fourth-best mark in program history at 2.01 meters.
•Thomas Fadden came up just .01 meters shy of tying the school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 50.97 meters.
•Elijah Smith put up the fourth-best discus throw mark in program history at 44.57 meters.
•Kau’ilani Miki-Han posted the second-best hammer throw mark in program history at 43.22 meters before putting up the third-best shot put mark in program history at 11.20 meters.
•Alyssia Gonzalez had the fourth-best 100-meter time in program history at 12.34 meters while Shareen Estremera had the 10th-fastest time at 12.61.
THIS WEEKEND AT SAN DIEGO STATE •The Cougars will split between competing in SDSU’s Invitational and Open.
•The decathlon and heptathlon will get underway on Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m.
•All of the Open events and the Invitational’s hammer throw and distance events will take place on Friday beginning at 8 a.m.
•With the exception of the hammer throw and distance events, all of the Invitational events will take place on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
THE OLSON FILE •Head coach Torrey Olson begins his first season at the helm of the men’s and women’s track and field programs after taking over in the summer of 2018.
•Olson came to CSUSM after spending three seasons as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at the Academy of Art University where his teams earned 50-plus All-American honors.
•Olson served as the head cross country coach the previous three years at Academy of Art.
•In addition to the Academy of Art, Olson has also worked with the University of San Francisco and Pomona-Pitzer College.
•A graduate of Pomona College in 2009, Olson also holds an MFA from St. Mary’s College (2012).

•Caitlin Vinyard tossed a complete gem in the shutout, allowing only three hits and walking only one batter. For the weekend, she threw 14 innings without allowing an earned run.

•Korina Krueg ranks in the top 10 in the CCAA in four categories: second in stolen bases (17), third in runs (24), third in triples (2) and fifth in hits (31).

THE EWING FILE •Head coach Stef Ewing enters her first season in charge of the Cougar softball team as the fourth head coach in program history.
•Ewing captured her first win as a collegiate head coach on Feb. 17th as the Cougars won 5-4 in a walk-off over Concordia Portland at CSUSM Softball Field.
•She previously served as the assistant coach at New Mexico State where she helped the Aggies to three WAC Regular Season Conference Championships and two WAC Conference Tournament Championships.

•Guiliano is a 2006 graduate of the University of Sioux Falls and a 2001 graduate of Valley Center High School.
