SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The 2018 Cougar Challenge for men’s and women’s cross country will be the lone home event for Cal State San Marcos Athletics this week as men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball hit the road.
The Cougar Challenge will begin with the men’s 8K at 8:30 a.m. at the Mangrum Track & Field on Saturday. The women’s 6K will begin right after at 9:15 a.m. Men’s and women’s soccer will be at Cal Poly Pomona on Friday before concluding the weekend at Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday. Volleyball will travel to Chico State on Friday before wrapping up the weekend at Stanislaus State on Saturday.

PREVIOUS RACE •The CSUSM men’s team finished 11th out of the 27 teams competing at the Lewis Conference Crossover this past weekend in Romeoville, Illinois.
•Sophomore Shea Vavra set the pace for CSUSM for the first time this season as he finished 19th out of 282 runners with a time of 25:16.4 in the men’s 8K.
•On the women’s side, the Cougars finished 12th out of the 28 teams competing and two spots ahead of rival UC San Diego.
•Senior Lisa Flora was the Cougars’ top finisher for the second time this season as she beat her previous best by almost two minutes to place 21st at 22:39.6 in the 5K.
UPCOMING RACE •Saturday’s Cougar Challenge will be the 11th annual race CSUSM has hosted.
•The men were ranked No. 7 in the West Region by the USTFCCCA on Oct. 2 while the women were ranked No. 8.
