Oceanside, CA – On Friday, November 17, 2023, at approximately 7:36 pm, the Oceanside Police Department responded to calls of a major injury collision involving three vehicles in the intersection of SR-76 and Canyon Drive. This collision occurred when a gray Mercedes sedan heading north on Canyon Drive ran a red light and was broadsided by a U-Haul Utility truck which was headed east on SR-76. The force of this collision caused both of these vehicles to become entangled together and collided with a white Kia Sedan that was in the left turn lane of west bound SR-76.
Both occupants of the Mercedes that ran the red light were pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the U-Haul truck and the Kia were both treated for minor injuries and released from the scene.
Alcohol intoxication of the deceased driver does appear to be a factor in this collision.
The identities of the deceased occupants are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
