Train vs. Pedestrian Collision in Oceanside

On February 29th, 2020, at approximately 11:19 pm, deputies from the Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit responded to a report of an Amtrak Train vs. pedestrian collision. The incident occurred on the railroad tracks, at the pedestrian crosswalk near the 200 block of Surfrider Way, in the city of Oceanside. A southbound Amtrak Train was traveling at approximately 55 miles per hour when the engineer observed what appeared to be a white male adult, duck under the pedestrian crossing guard and attempt to run across the track of the oncoming train. The train sounded its warning horn to alert pedestrian traffic, but the male appeared to struggle crossing over the tracks. The train was unfortunately unable to stop before fatally striking the male. The male was pronounced dead at the scene.
