UPDATE: Death Investigation – Vista Detention Facility

LOCATION: 325 S. Melrose Drive, Vista

DECEASED: Ronaldino Estrada, 24-years-old

The Medical Examiner’s Office conducted the autopsy today of Ronaldino Estrada. Estrada tested positive for Fentanyl during a presumptive test. However, further laboratory testing is required to confirm this. The cause and manner of death are pending laboratory results and further evaluation.

Information from prior release:

On July 5, 2021, at about 10:30 a.m., deputies at the Vista Detention Facility found an inmate, twenty-four-year-old Ronaldino Estrada, unresponsive in his cell. Deputies and medical staff immediately performed lifesaving measures until relieved by fire department personnel. Estrada was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, Estrada was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Estrada was booked into custody by the San Diego Sheriff’s Department on July 2, 2021 and was in custody for the charge of:

23153(b) CVC – DUI Causing Bodily Injury

The Homicide Unit responded to investigate the death. Estrada was in a cell with a cellmate. No evidence of foul play was discovered.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has scheduled Estrada’s autopsy for later this morning. The preliminary autopsy results will be posted on subsequent press release. Estrada’s family has been notified of his death. Estrada is a resident of Escondido.
