SYNOPSIS OF SUMMARY OF INCIDENT
On April 17, 2023, around 7:30 pm, Sheriff’s Homicide investigators were notified 53-year-old Eddie Faulkner, an individual in Sheriff’s custody, passed away at the Vista Detention Facility. Deputies and jail medical staff provided medical aid, including CPR and Naloxone, until relieved by paramedics. We extend our sympathies to the Faulkner family and those affected by his death. A Sheriff’s Family Liaison Officer will support the family as they deal with the loss of a loved one.
The Medical Examiner’s Office has completed an autopsy of Mr. Faulkner and determined the cause of death was acute fentanyl, trazodone, and gabapentin intoxication, with hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease contributing; the manner of death was accident.

As is the protocol for all in-custody deaths, the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded and will conduct a thorough investigation.
