Update to previous release:
A suspect in this case was arrested last night by members of the San Diego Sheriff’s Homicide Unit. He has been identified as fifty-seven-year-old Andrew Thomas Smith of Vista. Andrew has been booked for murder at the Vista Detention Facility and is being held without bail.
The victim’s family has been notified of her death. She has been positively identified as Jean Moore Smith, a fifty-nine-year-old resident of Vista. Jean was Andrew’s wife. The Medical Examiner’s Office conducted the autopsy today. The cause of death is a gunshot wound and the manner of death is homicide.
Information from previous release:
This evening (April 13, 2019) at 5:54 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a call of a reported shooting that had occurred inside a residence, located at 475 ½ Rancho Vista Rd., Vista. Deputies found an adult female inside the residence with severe injuries. Paramedics arrived to render aid and subsequently transported the female to a local hospital by ambulance. She was pronounced deceased at 6:44 p.m. A male subject was detained by deputies at the scene. There are no outstanding suspects for this incident.
The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded and has assumed responsibility of the investigation.
