San Marcos, CA As the fire season arrives, Vallecitos is proud to announce its robust preparations to ensure the community’s safety and water supply reliability. With a proactive approach and strategic planning, the District is ready to respond effectively to potential fire emergencies.

In collaboration with local authorities and emergency responders, Vallecitos has implemented a comprehensive strategy that includes:

• Increased Water Reserves: The District has augmented its water reserves to meet the heightened demand expected during fire season. This proactive measure ensures that firefighters have adequate resources to combat fires effectively.

• Infrastructure Enhancements: Critical infrastructure upgrades have been completed to strengthen the resilience of our water delivery systems. This includes maintenance of pipelines and pump stations to minimize disruptions and maximize efficiency during emergencies. Many of our pump stations have permanent generators ready to go online as soon as power fails.

• Emergency Response Coordination: Vallecitos has established clear protocols and enhanced coordination with fire departments and emergency management agencies. This collaboration ensures swift and coordinated responses to any fire-related incidents that may arise.

• Employee Training: Vallecitos staff are well trained to handle a variety of emergencies including wildfires. The District maintains an Emergency Operations Center that can be activated as needed.

• New Fire Related Equipment: The District’s new HeloPod (https://www.vwd.org/Home/Components/News/News/2804/18) is ready to go on a moment’s notice with a call from either the San Marcos Fire Department or Cal Fire.

“Our priority is the safety and well-being of our community,” said Dr. Tiffany Boyd- Hodgson, Vallecitos Board President. “Through diligent planning and investment in our infrastructure, we are prepared to support firefighting efforts and maintain reliable water service throughout the fire season.”

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about fire preparedness and to have a safe and sane Fourth of July weekend. As a reminder, all personal-use fireworks are illegal throughout San Diego County.
