Vista Community Clinic’s San Diego North County branch of Community Healthcare Centers has been selected as one of only 25 FQHCs in the country, and the only one in San Diego County in the first group of this pilot program, to receive more COVID-19 vaccines to ensure equity in vaccine distribution. The program, being launched in a collaborative effort between the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) comes after President Joe Biden has directed vaccines be set aside to reach those that have been disproportionately affected by the virus. Groups being targeted include: people experiencing homelessness, migrant farmworkers, public housing residents, and patients with limited English proficiency. The extra assistance in getting these groups vaccinated will be a big step in keeping all of us safe and healthy.

VCC is continuing to vaccinate eligible patients by appointment according to the state vaccination priority guidelines. Clinic leadership and staff have been working hard to get the vaccine out to as many patients as possible in a timely manner, and are thrilled to have the opportunity to extend that reach even further. State and local leaders are also looking forward to the new program’s impact on the overall health of the community. Congressman Mike Levin, longtime community health supporter, quickly reached out to VCC to schedule a visit to the clinic’s Vale Terrace Campus, set for mid-March, to get a first-hand look at vaccine distribution plans and set-up. With much to be excited about, VCC is looking forward to equitably supporting all members of the community for a safe return to healthy life.
