On Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 4:30 am, the Oceanside Police Department responded to a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian on State Route 76 at Benet Road. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive female lying in the westbound lanes of State Route 76. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Based on witness statements and physical evidence, the preliminary investigation indicates the woman was crossing State Route 76 against a red light. A vehicle traveling westbound on State Route 76 entered the intersection at Benet Road and struck the pedestrian in the middle
of the intersection. The motorist immediately stopped and waited for the police to arrive. The motorist was not injured. Alcohol and speed are not believed to be a factor in this collision.
The name of the decedent has not been released pending family notification. The Oceanside Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team is actively investigating this incident.
