CARLSBAD — Viasat’s highly anticipated VS3-F2 satellite launch was scrubbed twice this week due to technical issues with the Atlas V rocket.
The Carlsbad-based telecommunications and defense contractor planned to launch its satellite on Wednesday from Cape Canaveral in Florida on the United Launch Alliance (ULA) vehicle. However, the launch was scrubbed due to a valve issue with the Atlas V rocket during final checkouts.
A second launch was rescheduled for Thursday, but it was also scrubbed due to a recurrence of the issue with the Atlas V booster’s liquid oxygen tank vent valve, ULA said in a statement. ULA said its team will re-evaluate the hardware and “will release a new launch date when available.”
