The Vista Unified School District, the City of Vista and the Vista Chamber of Commerce are proud to partner on the Velocity Summer Internship Program. Running between June 12th and August 9th, incoming high school seniors have the opportunity to earn $16 an hour for up to 100 hours interning at a local business in their career interest area. Students will learn important work readiness skills and dispositions while building their social networks and earning greater than minimum wage.
Over 160 Vista students have applied to participate. Over 30 local businesses, including Vista Unified, have committed to hosting the student internships.
“It is so gratifying to see the work of our Career Superhighway gain momentum in our community.” Dr. Doyle, Superintendent of Schools
A Career Superhighway is a metaphor for creating an uninterrupted career development pathway for students to discover their strengths and interests and transform them into talent capital that aligns to the demands of the global marketplace.

“Talent attraction is one of the biggest challenges impacting local employers. The Chamber is proud to facilitate the connection
between Vista students and local businesses.” Rachel Beld, CEO of Vista Chamber of Commerce Initially funded by an ARPA grant from the City of Vista, the Velocity Internship program launched in 2022 with 42 students participating in the initial cohort.

This year, the program will provide at least 100 paid internship opportunities in businesses representing a wide range of industries through an expanded partnership with Vista Unifeid. The program aims to provide career exploration opportunities to students while adding capacity to participating businesses.
