VISTA — Firefighters, homebrewers, and craft beer enthusiasts gathered Sunday at Belching Beaver Pub 980 in Vista for the annual Hop Highway Brew-Off, a friendly competition with a serious purpose: raising money for the Vista Firefighters Association Local 4107 Charity Fund.
The annual event brings together talented brewers to compete for bragging rights.
This year’s competitors included:
Glen Griffith — Torrance Fire Department
Bill Mullins — Calistoga Brewing
Steve Kane — Steve’s Brewery
Justin Hennen — Dizzy Dog Brewing
Cary Botz and Eric — Jester & Jasper Junk Yard Brewing
Chris Aldrich — Salty Buffalo Brewing
Guests sampled each brewer’s creations, enjoyed food and live entertainment provided by Next of Kin, and voted for their favorite entries while supporting a worthwhile cause.
The Hop Highway Brew-Off has become one of the Vista Firefighters Association’s signature annual fundraisers. Proceeds benefit the association’s charity fund, which provides assistance to firefighters and their families during times of illness, injury or hardship, while also supporting local community members and charitable organizations.
“What makes this event special is that everyone involved is giving back,” said organizers. “The brewers donate their time and talent, local businesses support the event, and the community comes out knowing every ticket sold helps someone in need.”
