The Medical Examiner’s Office conducted the autopsy today and has identified the victim as thirty-year-old Oscar Ivan Hernandez, a resident of Vista. The victim’s family has been notified of his death. The preliminary cause of death is a gunshot wound to the body and the manner of death is homicide.

On December 29, 2020, just before 1:00 a.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 400 block of Massachusetts Avenue in Vista for an unknown disturbance. When deputies arrived, they located an adult male who had been shot. The Vista Fire Department responded and transported the male to a local area hospital. Unfortunately, the adult male was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded and assumed responsibility of the investigation. The identity of the male is known to investigators; however, his name is being withheld pending family notification
