Candidates Must File Between July 13 – August 7
Anyone interested in running for a seat on the Vista Irrigation District (VID) Board for the November 3, 2026 general election ballot may take out candidate filing papers from July 13 – August 7. Papers must be filed by 5 p.m. on August 7.

VID has three open seats up for election on Nov 3, in three divisions, 1, 2 and 3. Those interested in running for an open seat can find their division at: https://www.vidwater.org/find-your-division
VID serves over 134,000 customers across Vista and surrounding areas, with 90 employees who maintain over 429 miles of pipeline, 12 water storage reservoirs, and 17 distinct pressure zones. The annual budget is approximately $80 million, collected mainly from water rates and fees.
Becoming a member of the VID board of directors offers individuals an opportunity to run for local office and make a difference in their community. Water districts often get among the least attention in local elections – yet they control water rates, the safety of drinking water, customer service levels, maintain water infrastructure, and influence future growth and local conservation efforts.
For those interested, the San Diego County Registrar of Voters’ staff is available to help prospective candidates complete the necessary paperwork and to answer questions. Candidates unsure about the local district offices for which they are eligible, based on residency, should contact the Registrar of Voters office for help.
