VISTA — The city is moving forward with allowing cannabis-related events on private property.

The City Council approved the item, 4-0 (Councilman Dan O’Donnell was absent), during its March 12 meeting, which was brought forward by Councilman Joe Green. Green’s proposal includes 11 regulations along with the entire council stressing a zero-tolerance approach to sales or access to events by anyone under 21.

Should the City Council eventually approve allowing events, Vista would be the first city in North County to allow marijuana-specific events. (Watch the item below)

City staff will take the proposal and conduct further research and reviews before bringing it back to the council for approval. The proposed regulations are detailed and also must align with Measure Z, which was passed by voters in 2018 and allowed for 11 medicinal marijuana dispensaries.

Upon its passage, the City Council pivoted to legalizing recreational marijuana along with distribution, delivery and cultivation uses.
