At 105 years young, Ann Evans is believed to be the eldest resident of the city of Vista. On Sunday March 1, 2020, Vista Mayor Judy Ritter, and also Deputy Mayor Amanda Rigby, celebrated this memorable birthday with four generations of Ann’s nieces and nephews at Aldine Residential Care in Vista, California. Ann became a San Diego County resident in the 1950’s, first in Fallbrook, later in Vista. In the 1960’s and 1970’s Ann did volunteer work at local hospitals and nursing homes. In the 1990’s and 2000’s Ann was a caregiver for several family members and friends.
In 2015, Ann celebrated her 100th birthday at a Padres game in San Diego by throwing the first pitch of the game. 60 family members attended that event!!! Now in Vista, Ann enjoys family visits and karaoke at the care facility. Ann likes to share her ideas about how to have a happier life.
One pearl of wisdom from Ann is never to hold onto grudges.
“Learn to forgive others and you will have found the secret to happiness”, Ann said. She is dearly loved by four generations of nieces and nephews who live across the U.S. and Australia, too. She has reached out to them for their whole lives and today, 40 of them came to her celebration.
