Vista’s Arts & Culture District Mural Approved to Move Forward

Tideline Partners is thrilled to receive unanimous approval from Vista’s City Council and Mayor last night advancing the creation of an iconic mural on our Found Lofts project. We hope our investment in the Downtown Community Plan vision will spur more investments in the arts, elevate Vista’s Arts & Culture District visibility and pay homage to our local and national heritage, said Lev Gershman of Tideline Partners.

We appreciate their important feedback and sage advisement and look forward to connecting and consulting with local Native Tribes and the community on the imagery in the coming days to ensure we are accurately depicting their important legacy and storytelling. This exciting collaboration between international artist Joram Roukes and some of our talented local mural artists will cultivate creative energy in our beautiful and emerging Arts and Culture District and set a beacon for artists far and wide.

We are grateful for their approval and look forward to working with all parties to advance this beautiful project for the benefit of unity, freedom and art. The “proof” is incomplete and will be further refined and influenced by community and Native Tribes guidance.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE MURAL FEATURES
The subjects of the mural, Sacajawea and her infant son, Jean-Baptiste Charboneau, simultaneously embody America’s bold pioneering spirit and multi-cultural fabric. Sacajawea demonstrated exceptional bravery and strength as she guided the Lewis and Clark expedition over the Rockies and out to the Pacific Coast, all while carrying her son on her back. Such feats would later establish her as a symbol of women’s worth and independence by the Suffrage movement in the early 20th century. Jean-Baptiste, the son of a Native American mother and French-Canadian father, grew up traveling the world and eventually landing in this region to become alcalde (magistrate) of the San Luis Rey mission, which today includes Oceanside and Vista.

In addition, the iconic mural incorporates a skateboard, reflecting Vista’s significant influence on the history of the sport, and a hummingbird, Vista’s official City bird.
