Vista’s Elks Lodge #1968 Donates to Got Your Back San Diego

Vista’s Elks Lodge #1968 is the most active lodge in the South Coast District and they support and participate in many community events. They recently visited the ‘Got Your Back San Diego’ warehouse in Oceanside and learned how the program feeds local school children every week. During the visit, the Elks Lodge presented a check for $1,000 to help support this important program.

‘Got Your Back San Diego’ is a weekend food assistance program developed specifically for school children who do not have reliable access to a sufficient amount of affordable, nutritious food. They currently serve schools in the Tri-City area of Northwest San Diego County.
Every week, volunteers come to the Oceanside warehouse to fill backpacks with 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, and a few healthy snacks, enough food to sustain a child throughout the weekend. The full backpacks are then delivered to the schools, where a designated school liaison distributes them to the children in need before they leave for the weekend. The liaisons also collect the empty backpacks from the prior week. Also included in each backpack are interactive homework assignments that teach kids about food and making healthy food choices.

$1.00 A DAY!
The cost to provide a child with 6 nutritious meals every weekend is $30 a month. Please consider sponsoring a child, or several children if you’re able. Your donations, big or small, are tax deductible. Click here to sponsor a child with monthly support or make a one time donation. In-kind donations such as vehicle, equipment, etc. are also appreciated as they can be liquidated to purchase food.
