Vista, CA – The City of Vista regretfully announces the cancellation of this year’s Independence Day Celebration because of a shortage of fireworks companies in the region. The pandemic significantly impacted the fireworks industry when those businesses suffered cancellations in 2020. Several could not recover and have gone out of business, leaving the region with fewer qualified fireworks companies. Those who have stayed open are booked for this year and cannot add more shows because of staffing shortages. Moving forward, City staff will present an agreement to the City Council with a company that will guarantee fireworks shows from 2024 through 2028. The City looks forward to the return of fireworks shows at Brengle Terrace Park on July 4, 2024.

The City of Vista recognizes that the Independence Day Celebration is a beloved tradition. It shares the disappointment of residents who look forward to this event every year. The Wave Waterpark will be open on July 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a special Military, Fire, and Law Enforcement Day, where active or retired military, firefighters, and law enforcement personnel will receive free admission, while up to six of their dependents can purchase tickets for just $10 each.

“We hope that this early announcement of the fireworks cancellation will give residents plenty of time to make alternative plans for the holiday,” stated City Manager John Conley. “The Wave Waterpark will be open on July 4, as will all other City parks for residents and visitors to enjoy. Even without fireworks, our city’s parks are perfect for celebrating.”
