Vista’s Sewer Pipe Repairs Reduce Maintenance Costs

The City of Vista’s Public Works Wastewater Division uses a trenchless process to repair sewer pipes. The repair process uses a “cured-in-place-pipe” for sewer lines ranging in size from 4 to 12 inches. This approach reduces the City’s maintenance costs and the need for large scale traffic control and lane closures on Vista’s main and residential roads, heavy equipment, contract work, and higher repairs found in the traditional open-cut trench process.

The process involves soaking a pipe liner in an epoxy resin and threading it through the existing sewer pipe already underneath the road. The liner is then inflated in the sewer pipe. This process repairs the defect and improves the performance of the sewer pipe and the City’s entire system. The trenchless repair costs $500 per kit compared to the $30,000 (minimum) cost of an open-cut trench repair. Even though this process cannot be used for all sewer repairs, it brings tremendous benefits to the City and its residents
