On May 3, 2017, the Oceanside City Council adopted a resolution to begin the process to transition to district elections. This means that those who run for City Council will need to live in the district where they seek election. The Mayor’s seat will continue to be elected at-large. This year Districts #3 and #4 are being contested. North County Daily Star invited the Candidates to be interviewed. They were asked the same questions. This week District 4 candidate interviews are available. District 3 will be posted next week.

Michelle Gomez is a Southern California native who originally hails from Cerritos. She and her husband Don have called Oceanside home for 13 years. Michelle is a nature lover at heart who enjoys hiking and outrigger canoeing. To ask those who see her in action every day however, most would say that her primary passion must be community service.
Determined to make a difference, Michelle’s record of service goes back nearly two decades and includes assisting military families and veterans, forming community building organizations, serving on the board of a patient’s advocacy nonprofit, fighting to end human trafficking, stopping domestic violence, and preventing elder abuse. She currently serves on the Assembly District 76 Advisory Council on Housing and Homelessness.
As an active member of the community, Michelle recognizes the challenges facing Oceanside and is committed to taking results-oriented action to address those challenges. She envisions a community that protects and preserves our neighborhoods and ensures economic opportunity for everyone. Michelle believes it’s time for local government to put the needs of working families first, to address our epidemic homelessness crisis, our massive traffic congestion, and our public safety needs.
Michelle is a proud military spouse and daughter. Her husband Don served in the Marine Corps and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Her father, also a Marine Corps veteran was awarded a Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam. Michelle has demonstrated her support for our troops by serving for over half a decade as a USMC Family Readiness Assistant aiding the families of our deployed heroes. For her service to our heroes and those they leave behind while deployed, Michelle was awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award on four separate occasions.
In her professional life, Michelle works in the legal field in regulatory compliance, policy development, and corporate ethics. She has worked previously as a Legislative Analyst reviewing pending legislation and drafting policy. This combination of community service, familiarity with the issues plaguing our city, and experience drafting and executing effective policy is what makes Michelle ably suited to the role of City Councilmember. Michelle is ready to get things done and to take the next step in building a brighter future for Oceanside.

Jane is a 30yr resident of District 4, raising our family, growing our business here as President for 18yrs responsible for operations, fiscal and ethical compliance. In her profession, she’s helped organizations large and small, local and global do more with less and improve performances for 40 years! She can bring all this valuable expertise to Oceanside City Hall to ensure fiscal, ethical and operational excellence.
Now retired, Jane give back to the community as a Oceanside Ambassador, a Friend of El Corazon, as President of the downtown Neighborhood Association. She supports the arts and cultural committees downtown and helped prepare over 100,000 meals for seniors and homeless at the Oceanside Kitchen Collaborative that is zero waste taking extra food and preparing delicious meals!
Jane has been a D4 community advocate, working on the Downtown Redevelopment Steering Committee, the Local Coastal Plan update, our new Climate Action Plan and Economic Development Plan to guide Oceanside into the future.
Jane helped stop bad ideas too; huge digital billboards on 78 & 76, a 4 lane highway through Guajome Park taking out homes and working farms, fought to keep our City Clerk and Treasurer elected vs appointees at twice the cost, and got hundreds of signatures to stop rezoning of farmland for unaffordable housing with no evacuation or traffic plan putting current and future residents at fire risk!
Jane is your 30yr neighbor, friend, and COMMUNITY & INDEPENDENTLY FUNDED candidate so there will be no conflict or even an appearance of conflict of interest! Jane will work for positive community supported changes, ensure fiscal and ethical accountability, and improve transparency at city hall.
Vote for Jane, your friend, neighbor and community advocate for positive change in Oceanside!! https://jane4oceanside.org/
