Whose Line Is It Anyway’s Laura Hall to Head Musical Improv Show in Oceanside

Improv at the Brooks Launches 2024 Programming

(Oceanside, CA) January 10, 2024 – Whose Line is it Anyway’s Musical Director Laura Hall will be performing with select improvisers from Northern and Southern California in a night of musical improv comedy on Saturday, January 13 at the Brooks Theater in downtown Oceanside.

“We are extremely excited to have Laura Hall come to the Brooks Theater for a night of fun improv comedy in the style of Whose Line that is completely made up based on audience suggestions,” said Improv at the Brooks director Chris Shurland. “Our live shows are fast-paced and highly interactive, so we never know what to expect. Adding Laura Hall’s unique ability to create improvised music adds an entirely new dimension to the show.”

Laura Hall is the long-time musical director for Whose Line Is It Anyway, currently broadcasting its twenty-first season. Prior to that she was the musical director for Chicago’s Second City.

Joining Hall on stage will be Improv at the Brooks’ director of improv Chris Shurland, American Improv Theatre’s artistic director Jeff Ringgold, and a cast of regular performers from northern and southern California.

In addition to the show, Hall will be teaching a beginner’s musical improv workshop at the Brooks, which will give North County residents with any level of experience the chance to learn musical improv from one of the pioneers in the industry.

“Having Laura Hall come to the Brooks to teach musical improv continues Oceanside Theatre Company’s commitment to bring new and unique opportunities for Oceanside residents to experience the arts,” said Oceanside Theatre Company’s Managing Director Alex Goodman. “In fact, it is just the beginning of our 2024 Improv at the Brooks offerings that will include classes for not only adults, but a new class for teens as well.”

In 2024, Improv at the Brooks will be offering introductory and advanced improv comedy classes, a new Improv for Teens class, monthly improv jams for performers of all levels, and monthly shows to entertain audiences.

“We are looking forward to a busy year of not only improv, but a host of other performances and events ranging from comedy and theater to live music and cultural events,” said Goodman.

Improv Classes begin on January 14. A full list of offerings can be found at https://oceansidetheatre.org/events-shows/improv-at-the-brooks/.
