SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Junior catcher Andrea Wood of the Cal State San Marcos softball team was named a CCAA All-Star by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
With the global COVID-19 pandemic suspending and subsequently ending the 2019-20 college athletics season in mid-March, it became an impossibility to properly bestow all-conference honors for spring sports. As a result, the CCAA announced the first, and hopefully last, CCAA All-Star Team, in a fun effort to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments across the league during the abbreviated 2020 campaign.
In the shortened season, Wood led the Cougars with an OPS of 1.073, five home runs, 22 RBIs, a .673 slugging percentage, 35 total bases and seven walks. The Hacienda Heights native also hit .327 with nine runs, 17 hits, one double and a triple.
Wood’s five home runs tied for the league lead while her 22 RBIs tied for third. Her 1.22 RBIs per game led the CCAA and ranked 31st nationally.
The list of 20 student-athletes mirrors the dugout limit for CCAA softball and is not bound by specific positions around the diamond. All 11 programs were guaranteed one representative to showcase talent across the league.
