San Marcos,, CA — After two years of planning and fundraising, on September 14, 2012 Wounded Warrior Homes moved their first wounded veteran into housing. This year, they celebrate ten years of helping our local veterans.
In September of 2012 Wounded Warrior Homes began with just a rented apartment. Now, they have purchased several homes and can accommodate fourteen veteran residents in their four homes. Veterans experiencing the effects of PTSD or a traumatic brain injury are handled with care and respect as they are taken from the streets and given the opportunity to flourish in a positive environment, which not only contributes to the treatment of their injuries but also points them on a path to success in their new civilian life.
Their first resident veteran was retired Sargent Rob Caudill. Rob was a Marine who served four tours in Iraq and was medically discharged in 2012. From his nine years in service, Rob struggled with PTSD and used his savings to pay for hotels while waiting for his benefits check to come in. When his savings ran out, Rob was on his way to a homeless shelter when he got the call from Wounded Warrior Homes founder Mia Roseberry that they were open and had a spot for him.
