“You Can’t Get There From Here” is True

This is one of those crazy circumstances when the phrase, “You can’t get there from here” is true. In my photo this morning, March 2, 2023, from Oceanview Drive in Vista, California the San Bernardino Mountains are buried in snow like never before: 9 feet of the stuff! Many roads to the mountain communities of Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear are impassable, roofs collapsed, driveways blocked. As a 62-year resident of our semi-tropical wonderland, I look for this improbable scene every winter — and today was the best ever. The photo is made with a 500mm telephoto lens, aimed due north from Ocean View Drive. The mountains are 80 miles away as a crow flies. Don’t try to get there from here just yet – stay warm and enjoy the view.
