OCEANSIDE — A pair of large-scale redevelopment projects will have to wait for approval after being delayed by the Oceanside City Council during Tuesday’s special meeting.

The council balked at approving the long-awaited Oceanside Transit Center redevelopment, along with the 801 Mission Avenue project, which includes 230 apartments. Both projects will be returned to the council on November 19.

The council expressed several concerns over the transit station, notably the current bus routes, prevailing wages, hiring local workers, the affordable housing component, and the timeline for the hotel.

However, North County Transit District Chief Executive Officer Sean Donaghy and Mike McCann, regional director of apartment living for Toll Brothers, caused a stir at the end of the item when they suggested that the project may not move forward due to a delay. Donaghy said NCTD has already had seven extensions to the agreement with Toll Brothers and wanted the council to make a decision.

“If this gets continued, I don’t think we’ll be back,” he added. “We’ve been at this for six years. We just extended our arrangement with NCTD to give us enough time. They gave us to tomorrow morning. My management has cut off all spending. We might go on if it costs zero dollars.
