CARLSBAD — Roosevelt Street in Carlsbad Village may be reshaped as two proposed projects call for condos, retail space, and demolition of longtime businesses, including Hennessy’s Tavern.
The Dewhurst and Rincon Roosevelt projects are mixed-development proposals with 61 for-sale condos, seven of which will be affordable, retail spaces, parking and other amenities. Hennessy’s, a vacant office building, eight apartments, and Karlsbad Realty will be demolished.
The Dewhurst project will be five stories, while the Rincon development will top out at four stories. Both project applications have been filed under Senate Bill 330, which allows for ministerial approval from the city and limits the Planning Commission or City Council’s ability to deny the projects.
