American Airlines, County Lawsuit set for April Hearing

SAN DIEGO — A hearing set to consider a motion to strike in a lawsuit over American Airlines’ operations at McClellan-Palomar Airport was canceled last week and replaced with a case management conference in April.

The case, brought by Citizens for a Friendly Airport, alleges San Diego County violated its conditional use permit and the California Environmental Quality Act after the Board of Supervisors approved a ground lease for commercial flights at the county-owned airport in Carlsbad. The April 17 conference will determine the timeline for future hearings or a trial as the dispute continues over the county’s handling of airport operations.

The city joined the case as an intervenor in November despite objections from the county and American Airlines. American Airlines began service in February with one daily flight to Phoenix.
