NORTH COUNTY — In two days, the ballots will be counted for one of the region’s most closely watched election races this cycle for the region.
The race for the District 5 seat on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors has seen its share of twists, turns, and controversy as five candidates vie for the seat. The five candidates are Democrats Kyle Krahel and Norma Contreras, Republican mayors John Franklin (of Vista) and Rebecca Jones (of San Marcos) and independent Sasha Miller.
Franklin, Krahel and Jones appear to be the frontrunners, while Contreras and Miller are the dark horses, yet all come with a different style, platform and goals if elected. Additionally, the money has been significant as the candidates have combined to raise more than $1.6 million.
Only the top two candidates will advance to November’s general election.
