Chamber Chat: Why I’m Voting Yes on Measure N

Last year, Vista Unified logged 380 roof leaks. Three hundred eighty. Not spread across a decade. In one year, in the buildings where our kids spend most of their waking hours. I read that statistic and thought about my own kids heading into class every morning.

Unfortunately, there’s more. At some Vista Unified campuses, the underground pipes are so old that they’re failing, and the result is gas leaks, water leaks and sewage backing up. We’ve got more than 400 portable classrooms still in use, and every single one is over 25 years old. Some buildings don’t provide proper access for students with disabilities, and some still have asbestos and lead pipes in them.
