Starting in March of 2019 and continuing until July, there were at least 20 commercial burglaries reported throughout San Diego and Riverside Counties. Each of these burglaries, the victim business was a brewery, small family restaurant or other family owned business. Based on the similarities of the crimes and surveillance video obtained, investigators believed these cases were all related.
The Oceanside Police Department took the lead to investigate these cases based on input from all investigating agencies. This includes the San Diego Police Department, Carlsbad Police Department, Escondido Police Department, San Diego Sheriff’s Department Vista and San Marcos Stations, Riverside Sheriff’s Department, Temecula, Hemet and Lake Elsinore Stations and the Murrietta Police Department. Based on evidence recovered from the break-ins, a suspect was identified as Nathanial Maynard (42) DOB: 5-2-1978 of Hemet.
On 7/21/19 Riverside Sheriff’s Temecula Station, Burglary Suppression Team (BST) and the Oceanside Police Department conducted surveillance of Maynard. Maynard was arrested shortly after he was observed attempting to make entry into the window of Weins Brewery in Temecula. Items linking Maynard to several of the other burglaries from both San Diego and Riverside County were found inside his vehicle. Maynard and a female companion, Leticia Esparza DOB: 9-9-83, were booked into the Robert Priestley Detention Center Southwest Station. Maynard bailed out later the same day and Esparza was released pending charges.
On 7/26/19 the Oceanside Police Department served a search warrant at Maynard’s residence in Hemet. More evidence linking Maynard to the burglaries was located during the search. Maynard was arrested and brought to the Vista Detention Facility and booked on various counts of PC 459 Commercial Burglary from San Diego County cases.
On 7/31/19 the Oceanside Police Department served a search warrant at 4021 Lonnie Street in Oceanside. Stolen property from the Twisted Horn Brewing in Vista was located during the search. A female believed to be Maynard’s girlfriend, was arrested for a warrant not related to this case.
