Bridge Housing Program
Bridge Housing, funded with Measure X revenue, is temporary housing that includes services aimed to quickly bring homeless Oceanside residents off the streets and help them rebuild their lives while they are awaiting permanent housing. In May alone, a total of 21 homeless individuals were sheltered in the new Bridge Housing Program, with three of those permanently housed in May. The Police Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) and Housing Social Workers assisted a combined 138 homeless individuals for a total of 301 services provided in May.

Contract Sobering Services
Recent homeless outreach and placement efforts have identified a barrier to securing both temporary and permanent housing for inebriated individuals. They often pose health and safety problems for themselves and the public. Shelters are not equipped to assist individuals in need of sobering services, some of which require medical supervision, so they deny access to them. With a combination of Measure X funding ($500,000) and a grant from County Health and Human Services, the City will contract with McAlister Institute to run a 25-bed Sobering Services Center at 1919 Apple Street. The Center will be dedicated to Oceanside homeless residents who are recommended by the HOT or the Housing Authority. This will allow them a stay of up to 24 hours and to receive services and referrals to assist them in a better life. The Sobering Services Center will screen and assess, launder, provide hygiene kits, monitor, and coordinate care with other service providers such as Recovery Services. Details
