Oceanside, CA (September 9, 2020)- Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) has been selected as a 2020 California Nonprofit of the Year by 76th District Assemblymember Tasha Boerner Horvath.

BGCO is one of over a hundred nonprofits that will be honored by their State Senators and Assemblymembers for their tremendous contributions to the communities they serve. BGCO has been serving our community for more than 68 years. We are a youth development organization whose mission is to inspire, develop and enrich young people to reach their fullest potential as confident, responsible, caring members of society. During the pandemic, BGCO quickly pivoted to meet the rapidly evolving needs of at-risk youth affected by school closures. We have adapted our programs to include an Emergency Food Program and a new Back2School program, which provide high quality wrap-around support critical to offsetting the detrimental effects of the pandemic on at-risk youth.

“During these unprecedented times, BGCO staff have worked around the clock to ensure that at-risk youth have the support they need while school closures continue. We are incredibly grateful and deeply humbled to be recognized by Assemblymember Tasha Boerner Horvath as a Nonprofit of the Year,” comments Jodi Diamond, CEO.

“I was pleased to find that dedicated Club staff continued to engage with the youth, paid close attention to their needs and challenges, and made extraordinary efforts to find innovative solutions in keeping enrichment programs open to the youth,” said Assemblymember Boerner Horvath.

“The pandemic and shelter-in-place orders of the last few months have put nonprofits – usually hidden in plain sight – in the spotlight,” explains Jan Masaoka, CEO of the California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits). “California Nonprofit of the Year is an opportunity for our elected officials to celebrate the good work they see nonprofits doing in their districts, and for everyone to appreciate the collective impact of nonprofits in our communities.”
