The American Public Works Association has selected the City of Vista’s Paseo Santa Fe Streetscape Improvement Project for the 2021 APWA Project of the Year award. The virtual award ceremony will be held in May where the project, amongst other individuals and team members of the public and private sector, will be celebrated. Through a State Water Resources Control Board grant, the City was able to create a low impact development green street that utilizes Best Management Practices for improving storm water quality.
The Streetscape Project involved the reconstruction of almost a mile of S. Santa Fe Avenue between Vista Village Drive and Civic Center Drive, resulting in a pedestrian-friendly thoroughfare through the downtown core. This area, known as the Paseo Santa Fe corridor, creates a sense of place and has revitalized and beautified downtown. Now established, the street enhancements will drive other downtown uses and will benefit local businesses and the community alike. Construction took place in three phases, with the final completion in December, 2020.
