The Vista Unified School District held their 2nd annual Arts Under the Stars event this week at the Moonlight Amphitheatre. This new annual event was so large that it spanned two evenings, engaged 29 separate performing arts groups from 14 schools, and included over 1,000 students in singing, dancing, drama, and instrumental performances that inspired a full house of community members.
“I could not have been more proud of the talent that was on display. We had students from five years old to seniors in high school performing, singing, dancing, and acting on the stage, under the lights with professional microphones pinned to their elaborate costumes.”
Dr. Doyle, Superintendent of Schools
In addition to the two-day set of performances at the Moonlight, Vista Unified collaborated with the City of Vista to open the Fine Arts Under the Stars at Vista City Hall. The art exhibit displayed award winning paintings, drawings, and ceramic artworks developed by middle and high school students.
Thanks to the unwavering commitment of our Board Trustees, the arts in Vista Unified have always taken center stage. The district has recently increased funding dramatically for both the fine arts and performing arts as a component of the newly adopted board policy on equity to broaden opportunities for all students to discover their strengths and hidden talents.
“A central focus for us a school board is to create equitable learning environments that give students what they need to be successful. Promoting a strong visual and performing arts program throughout the district opens up windows of opportunity for students to realize their dreams.”
Martha Alvarado, Board President
