•Cole Library is celebrating 50 years of community service by offering specially themed programs, events and activities through Dec. 9.
•Admission and participation at special programming is free.
•Cole Library is open Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, from 1 to 5 p.m.

The building housing the Georgina Cole Library opened on Nov. 27, 1967. It was the city’s only library facility for over thirty years. It was originally referred to as the Carlsbad City Library. The library was renamed for Georgina Cole, the city’s first library director, on April 15, 2000.

Ms. Cole was instrumental in successfully campaigning to build the library that now bears her name, introducing the Rambling Reader bookmobile, implementing homebound services and pushing for the La Costa branch that led to the establishment of what is now known as the Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane. She was the City of Carlsbad’s Citizen of the Year in 1978.

In 2017, as Cole Library celebrates its 50th anniversary, all three Carlsbad City Library locations continue to provide world-class library services. The Library achieves high satisfaction ratings among city services, year after year, in part due to a commitment to ensuring each branch meets the needs and interests of Carlsbad residents. From introducing new technology to increasing access to collections online, to delivering materials and library services through outreach, the Carlsbad City Library will continue to support the community that built it, well into the future.
