Carlsbad Unified School District continues to receive guidance from the California Department of Public Health and the National Center for Disease Control to ensure the health of our students and staff during this flu season. At this time, the health risk to the general public in California from novel coronavirus remains low; however, the risk of exposure to the virus in China is increasing. Travelers from mainland China are advised to limit public interactions for 14 days after their departure from China. Therefore, as recommended by the Department of Public Health, any student who has returned from China since February 3 will not be permitted to return to school until 14 days from the date of their return. If your child has visited mainland China since February 3rd, please notify your child’s school to report the absences and discuss make-up work.
Our District nurse and health technicians are continuing to monitor students for signs and symptoms of flu and will respond appropriately to any student who is identified as being ill.
The District continues to encourage all families to practice preventive measures during this flu season:
•Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
•Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
•Stay home when you are sick. If your child has had a fever, they must remain home for 24 hours during this flu season.
•Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then properly dispose of the tissue.
•Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
•Individuals with chronic health issues and/or individuals experiencing severe symptoms should be evaluated by a medical professional.
•Get vaccinated each year.
•See more prevention tips from the CDC here.
Please feel free to contact your principal if you have any questions regarding this updated procedure. Thank you for your cooperation.
