The public is also invited to attend a free opening reception at the gallery from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, hosted by the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts. The event will include light refreshments and a chance to meet some of the featured artists.
“The objects in the exhibition are utilitarian while also displaying artistic qualities of beauty, invention, and masterful technique,” said Karen McGuire, Curator of Exhibitions for the City of Carlsbad’s Library & Cultural Arts department. “As I’ve researched and worked on curating the exhibit, which began several years ago, I sought to highlight the idea that a chair is more than something to sit on. Visitors will find the objects both beautiful and purposeful.”
Artists featured in the exhibition include David Fobes, Wendy Maruyama, John Cederquist, Paul Henry, Nate Betschart, DeLoss McGraw, Lee Puffer, Roy Jenuine, Seth Keller, Gabriel Weise, James Watts, Christopher Polentz, Cheryl Tall, Adam John Manley, Nina Karavasiles and Erin Behling.
The William D. Cannon Art Gallery is in the Carlsbad City Library complex at 1775 Dove Lane. The gallery is open Tuesday through Thursday, from noon to 7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m.
