Vista’s Wildwood Crossing & Cantina is fast becoming the North County center for great food and great entertainment as shown by the latest presentation offered by John Bagley and the rest of the Wildwood ownership. The performances are arranged in conjunction with Vista’s Broadway Theatre and owners Douglas Davis and Randall Hickman. Opening the Dinner Theatre shows on Friday evening was local musician Daniel Newheiser with his show called “I’m Old Fashioned”.
On Fridays and Saturdays, the dinner and show starts at 6 pm for dinner and 7 pm for the performance and on Sundays the event begins at 2 for lunch and 3 for the show. Those attending can select from six entrees – Prime Rib, Braised Short Rib, Grilled Cod over Pesto Risotto, Portobella Mushroom Ravioli, Fish & Chips or Carnitas Plate. For our selections my wife selected the Prime Rib plate and I selected the Carnitas Plate. The food was outstanding, and you will certainly not leave the restaurant hungry.
Daniel will be on stage next weekend as well, March 11, 12, and 13. He is a graduate of the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California where he studied jazz guitar and classical voice. Some of the places he has performed include Sea World San Diego’s “Madagascar Live: Operation Vacation”, Legoland and the Lawrence Welk Resort Theatre as well as numerous private performances. Along with this, Daniel is a music instructor in guitar, piano and vocal technique. He specializes in jazz, country rock and original music. For the Wildwood performance, “I’m Old Fashioned”, Daniel entertains the audience with classics like “Route 66” by Nat King Cole, “Pennies from Heaven” by Billie Holiday, “Nearness of You” by Norah Jones, “Exactly Like You” by Sam Cooke, “Witchcraft” and “Fly me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra, “Sweet Georgia Brown” by Ben Bernie and many more numbers. He puts his own twist on a number of the songs, playing several in a Bossa Nova style, others with masterful guitar introductions and putting his own personal musical interpretation on many others.
