Escondido Fire Update

On July 25, Escondido Fire deployed OES Brush Engine 6615 with three firefighters to the Oak Fire in Mariposa County. Additionally, a Battalion Chief deployed to the same incident filling the request for Division Supervisor along with a Fire Engineer who filled a request for a Fireline PIO.

On July 27, the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received a report of a Residential Structure Fire in an apartment located in the area of Ohio Avenue and East Grand Avenue. The first arriving Captain reported smoke from a distance and upgraded the incident to a working fire. Due to the potential for the fire to spread and the threat to life and property a second alarm was also requested. Firefighters contained the fire to the bottom floor apartment and extinguished the fire in approximately 20 minutes. The involved apartment sustained major damage and three adjoining apartments were impacted by smoke. One resident sustained minor smoke inhalation and was evaluated on scene by paramedics, however fortunately the person did not require treatment or transportation. Residents who lived in the affected apartment were provided a gift card to help with immediate needs thanks to the California Fire Foundation’s SAVE program. The Red Cross also provided assistance to residents. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Congratulations to Firefighter Paramedics Jacob Allan and Dan Pettinato who both completed their year-long probation. Probationary firefighters complete many hours of training and must successfully complete many written and performance tests throughout the year. Once complete, probationary firefighter are awarded their permanent firefighter helmet shield as a symbol of their achievement.
