First Friday Art Walk Oceanside will be held at Artist Alley in downtown Oceanside on Friday, August 2nd from 5:00pm – 9:00pm. More than 50 local artists, food vendors and musicians will be on hand this month.
“We are proud to present another $500 scholarship to a very deserving high school senior who intends to further her artistic education at a local area college. First Friday Art Walk Oceanside artists and local business supporters will be in attendance at Art Walk to celebrate the occasion and enjoy light refreshments,” says Susan Brown, president of the Oceanside Friends of the Arts
The scholarship award winner is Valerie Pfeffer, an El Camino High School graduate, who plans to attend Chico College in the fall to pursue a major in Digital Arts. This represents the third scholarship Oceanside Friends of the Arts has presented to deserving local high school students as a result of First Friday Art Walk and other fund-raising activities.
One of the new Oceanside based artists participating this month in Art Walk is Kenneth Montgomery, an award- winning artist behind Fine Art Expressions. Kenneth has been involved in photography and digital artistry for well over two decades and his art has been on exhibition at the San Diego County Fair, the Lyceum Theatre Gallery and the Art Institute of California at San Diego. His focus includes such subjects as animals, flora, seascapes, landscapes, abstract, cultural, historic, butterflies and more.
Jeffrey Jenney, another local Oceanside artist will be exhibiting his collection of art and drawing pieces inspired by trips to the zoo. He has recently published a new book, Drawing at the Zoo: A Collection of Animal Drawings from Life, that is organized geographically so that flipping through the pages is like taking a trip around the world to see all the amazing creatures it has to offer.
Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) will be featuring a free Music at the Museum concert with the Mercedes Moore Band, as Oceanside’s First Friday Art Walk extends into the night. The concert is reminiscent of the ’50s and ’60s with a combination of vintage blues, soul and rhythm n’ roll that keep dancers moving and listeners grooving. Free admission, cash bar and a food truck will be on hand serving up yummy eats. The music starts and cash bar opens at 7pm. Galleries close at 8.
