SAN DIEGO – Honor Flight San Diego returns to San Diego on Sunday, May 3 with veterans who served in WWII, Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The flight is scheduled to arrive at 1:15 p.m. and organizers encourage attendees to arrive at San Diego International Airport, Terminal 2, baggage claim area by Noon. More than 800 people are expected to attend. The event is open to the public, free to attend, and family friendly. Attendees should park in the Terminal 2 parking structure.
There will be 90 veterans from every branch of service including a 98-year-old WWII veteran who served in all three wars (WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War), two sets of brothers, and five women who served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. There will be veterans who served overseas and stateside, on ships, in the air, and on the ground, and then came to San Diego to serve in our local community.
During the three-day trip to our nation’s capital, the veterans will visit the memorials built for their service and sacrifice. They will visit the WWII, Lincoln, Korean, Vietnam, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and FDR and MLK Memorials. The veterans will also witness the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and women veterans will visit the Military Women’s Memorial.
The veterans on this flight will be part of the organization’s 32nd flight from San Diego. The organization has flown more than 2,100 military veterans at no cost to them. The trip is completely donor funded and costs over $310,000.
