A good friend of mine, Jerry Hager, has put together 18 Facebook and You Tube episodes of short, 5-13 minute, funny and inspiring messages, called “Welcome to Grandpas Office”, aimed at young people as they are also faced with trying to understand the current world we are all forced to live in. With these young people having to see their teachers only online, without contact with their friends at school or even in their neighborhoods, life has suddenly turned upside down for them and many are struggling with how to understand what is going on around them.
Jerry is a former drama instructor at Grossmont College and has been involved with theatre for many years. He can be found each year as one of the centerpieces for the San Diego County Fair as he greets Fair goers in clever costumes designed for the theme of each Fair, always beside a most incredible 4 wheeled riding contraption, also in a Fair Theme. He runs the popular 3 o’clock Fun Family contests, runs the Boomers and Beyond Trivia Contests, the Pie Eating Contests and a myriad of other events each and every day, many times with former students who also take part in entertaining the crowds.
Jerry has designed a Facebook and You Tube program for younger children, each of the current 18 programs anywhere from 5-13 minutes in length. The programs are for parents to use to help their children feel more comfortable about the craziness going on around them. He addresses the concerns and questions these children might have in these challenging times. Topics covered range from Hope to Laughter to Being Scared to Boredom and much more. He used a puppet friend named “Pup” to help him get messages across to children that inspire and put them at ease. On You Tube you can click on the different episodes and/or subscribe to “Welcome to Grandpas Office”.
I encourage you to pass this along to any young families you may know that have younger children cooped up in homes at the present time. Attached below is Episode 1 – Funnies Battle Boredom.
