Letter from City of Vista Planned Protests

The City of Vista is aware that there are two organized events scheduled on Saturday in response to the protests and gatherings occurring across the nation. The events are being advertised as peaceful demonstrations. The City respects this time for our community to express their grief, anger, and frustration. However, law enforcement is aware and involved, and prepared to respond in case there are any incidents.

We understand that businesses are concerned in the wake of some violent demonstrations that have occurred in other areas. Based on what information we have at this point, we are not planning for any violence at the events.

Below is a listing of the two organized events:

• On Saturday, June 6, a group called North County 4 Racial Justice (formerly BLM North County) has organized a gathering from 11am to 3pm, and will include a march. The march route at this time is unknown. The Sheriff’s Department has reached out to the organizers of the event to discuss their plans, the route for the march, and to ensure a peaceful conclusion.

• Additionally on Saturday, June 6, there is a second event that is scheduled to begin at the Civic Center at noon. The event is being organized by the Racial Justice Coalition, led by Yusef Miller. This event is part of the 100 Mothers March for criminal justice reform.

In addition, there are around a dozen events happening on Saturday within the County and five in North County alone. Of the events, three are in the evening hours and they are in Chula Vista, La Mesa and San Diego.

If more details become available, we will share the information via our various platforms i.e. website, Facebook, Twitter, Nextdoor, etc..

Sincerely, Kevin Ham
