OCEANSIDE/CARLSBAD, CA — Soroptimist International of Oceanside-Carlsbad (SIOC) will honor its Live Your Dream award recipients during a live virtual event at 6 p.m. March 12th. Like so many community organizations that are used to fundraising at in-person events, SIOC had to find a way to continue its work during a time when meeting together is not possible. So, the Live Your Dream Reunion and Giving Event is taking place online, and the public is invited to attend. Tickets are $25, and can be purchased through the SIOC website, www.sioceansidecarlsbad.com.
Soroptimist’s Live Your Dream Awards program is a unique education award for women who provide the primary financial support for their families. The Live Your Dream Awards give women the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment. In 2021, SIOC will provide awards up to 12 women, ranging from $1,000 to $2,500. Women can use the money in whatever manner will help them further their goals, whether that be tuition, rent, childcare or other living expenses. SIOC has given over $30,000 to awardees in the past five years. We are excited that several previous Live Your Dream recipients will join us at our reunion event to share what they have achieved since receiving their awards. The stories are always inspiring.
Everyone can support our program by heading to the Giving Wall and making contributions that support the types of items that Live Your Dream recipients need to continue their education, such as a laptop computer, childcare costs, rent, and student parking fees. These donations, ranging from $20 to $1,000, showcase just what it costs to stay in school, and where the money goes. At the Giving Wall, people can bid on gift baskets, or enter a raffle to win vacations at Cabo San Lucas, Vancouver Island and the Letson Loft Hotel in Brisbee, Arizona. The Giving Wall will be open from February 25th to March 18th and can be reached via the SIOC website: www.sioceansidecarlsbad.com. You do not need to attend the event to participate in giving!
