TREE UP the soaring Urban Tree sculpture created by the late artist Mitchell Gaul, has returned to its #downtownoceanside home and in better condition than ever. After the art piece suffered storm-related damage in late spring, MainStreet Oceanside staff refurbished and refit various components of the sculpture to bring it back to its original condition.
First created for the innovative Port of San Diego Urban Tree Program in 2006 and later installed in Oceanside, this three-dimensional tensile structure has graced the corner of Pier View Way and Pacific Street since 2008. Many describe it as a kite, a sail or a wind vane. Its unique design always tracks the direction of the fresh ocean breezes that sweep into Downtown from the Pacific.
