On February 24, 2020 at approximately 7:45 pm, the Sheriff’s Communications Center received a call of a traffic collision, involving multiple vehicles, at the intersection of South Rancho Santa Fe Road and Melrose Drive, in the city of San Marcos. Deputies from the San Marcos Station responded to the scene, as well as police officers from the neighboring Carlsbad Police Department. The collision involved four vehicles and caused major, but not life-threatening injuries.
There was a partial roadway closure while deputies investigated the collision and documented the scene. The driver at fault for the collision, a 19-year-old female resident of Vista, was also determined to be under the influence of alcohol. She was transported to Palomar Medical Center and treated for her injuries. She was later booked into the Vista Detention Facility for two felony crimes: driving under the influence causing injury, and child endangerment.
